Kapvay Description: Kapvay belongs to a class of drugs known as centrally acting alpha2-adrenergic agonists. The medication is used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
While Kapvay is not a central nervous system stimulant, the mechanism by which the medication helps treat ADHD is unknown.

Kapvay Uses: Kapvay is used to reduce certain behaviors commonly associated with ADHD. ADHD is characterized by inattention, hyperactivity and impulsive tendencies. The majority of patients diagnosed with ADHD are children; however, the condition can also affect adults.
Kapvay may be used alone or in conjunction with a psychostimulant. However, Kapvay should generally only constitute a single component of a larger ADHD treatment plan that includes social and educational elements.
Kapvay Interactions: Kapvay may interact with the following medications and substances: Alcohol Barbiturates and other sedating drugs Tricyclic antidepressants Digitalis Calcium channel blockers Beta blockers Other medications that contain clonidine (e.g. Catapres) Medications for high blood pressure
Kapvay may interact with other medications or substances that are not listed above. In order to avoid potentially hazardous interactions, patients should talk with their doctor about the use of any other medicines, vitamins or supplements before beginning treatment with Kapvay.
Kapvay Dosage Information: Typical Dosage Recommendations Kapvay dosages may vary among patients. Your doctor will determine the size and frequency of your dosage according to your individual needs. Patients should follow the dosage guidelines established by their doctor.
Kapvay is administered in the form of an extended-release oral tablet and is available in 0.1 mg and 0.2 mg strengths. Kapvay should be swallowed whole and never crushed.
Patients normally begin treatment by taking 0.1 mg at bedtime. This dose may be gradually increased up to 0.4 mg per day as treatment progresses. Patients should eventually achieve a regimen in which they take a dose of Kapvay once in the morning and once at bedtime.
Patients should not abruptly stop taking Kapvay, unless otherwise instructed by their doctor. In order to prevent and reduce withdrawal symptoms, patients should undergo a gradual dose reduction when discontinuing use of the medication.
Missing a Dose of Kapvay If you forget to take a dose of Kapvay, skip the missed dose and resume your normal dosage schedule. Do not consume a double dose of Kapvay to compensate for a missed dose.
Kapvay Overdose An overdose of Kapvay may result in the following symptoms: Changes in blood pressure Slow heartbeat Respiratory depression Hypothermia Drowsiness Reduced reflexes Weakness Irritability Constricted pupils
Patients should seek immediate medical attention if they have taken too much of this medication.
