What Is Flomax?
Flomax(tamsulosin hydrochloride) is a prescription medicine that has been licensed as treatment for an enlarged prostate. An enlarged prostate is also known medically as benign prostatic hyperplasia, benign prostatic hypertrophy, or BPH.
Who Makes It?
Flomax is manufactured by Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, Inc.
 
How Does Flomax Work?
Flomax is part of a class of drugs known as alpha blockers. It works by blocking alpha-1 receptors. Alpha-1 receptors are found in several places of the body, including the prostate gland.
For the treatment of BPH, blocking alpha-1 receptors helps to relax the muscles of the prostate and the bladder neck (where urine leaves the bladder). Flomax does not shrink the prostate, as some other BPH medications do. However, by relaxing the muscles of the prostate and bladder, it helps to quickly relieve BPH symptoms. While the drug can help with symptoms, it is not a cure for BPH.

Several studies have looked at how well Flomax treats enlarged prostate symptoms: 
Symptoms of BPH
In studies of Flomax for BPH treatment, men were asked to rate the following symptoms:
•Incomplete bladder emptying
•Frequent urination
•Intermittent stops and starts in the urine flow
•Feeling of urgency when needing to urinate
•Weak urine stream
•Having to get up to urinate frequently during the night.
 
The men who took Flomax had significant improvement in their BPH symptoms compared with the men who did not. This improvement was usually seen within the first week and lasted throughout the study period (13 weeks).

【特点】头孢卡品酯是第四代可口服头孢类抗生素，药理研究表明，对好氧G+菌的MSSA的MIC80为3.13μg/ml，与头孢替安、头孢克洛相同、对肺炎链球菌的MIC80 ≤0.1μg/ml，优于头孢克洛，与头孢托仑相当，对耐青霉素（含中等程度耐药）的肺炎链球菌的活性很强，MIC80为0.78μg/ml。对G-菌中的弗氏柠檬酸杆菌、阴沟肠杆菌、雷氏普罗威登斯菌、粘膜炎布兰汉氏球菌、粘质沙雷氏菌比头孢托仑、头孢替安强。对变形杆菌属、流感嗜血杆菌、摩氏摩根氏菌、淋球菌的活性比头孢克洛、头孢替安强，与头孢特仑相当。对耐氨苄西林的流感嗜血杆菌有很强的活性，MIC80为0.05μg/ml。对厌氧菌的活性是对比药中最强的。健康男性成人，口服75mg、150mg及200mg剂量， Tmax约1.3-1.5h，Cmax分别为2.0、5.7和7.3μ g/ml，t1/2为0.8-1.3h，进食可减少吸收。
