药用功能：清热解毒、透疼

性味与归经：辛、微甘，微寒。归肺、脾、胃、大肠经。    

功能与主治：发表透疹，清热解毒，升举阳气。用于风热头痛，齿痛，口疮，咽喉肿痛，麻疹不透，阳毒发斑；脱肛，子宫脱垂。

用法与用量：3～9g。    

贮藏：置通风干燥处。    

临床应用：    
1.普济消毒饮（《东垣试效方》）治大头瘟。恶寒发热，头面红肿痛，目不能开，喉咙不利，舌燥口渴，舌红苔黄，脉数有力。黄芩、黄连各15g，陈皮、甘草、玄参、柴胡、桔梗各10g，连翘、板蓝根、马勃、牛蒡子、薄荷各5g，僵蚕、升麻各3g。水煎服。方中升麻与柴胡配伍疏散风热，并引诸药上达头面，使风热疫毒之邪宣散透发，为佐使药。    
2.清胃散（《脾胃论》）治胃火上攻证。牙痛牵引头脑，面颊发热，其齿恶热喜冷；或牙宣出血，或牙龈肿痛溃烂；或唇舌颊腮肿痛；口气热臭，口干舌燥，舌红苔黄，脉滑大而数。生地黄、当归身各6g，牡丹皮9g，黄连6g，升麻6g。作汤剂，水煎服。方中升麻辛甘微寒，入胃与大肠经，清热解毒，升而能散，为臣药。    
3.补中益气汤（《内外伤辨惑论》）治脾不升清证。头晕目眩，视物昏花，耳鸣耳聋，少气懒言，语声低微，面色萎黄，纳差便溏，舌淡脉弱。气虚发热证。中气下陷证。黄芪18g，炙甘草9g，人参（去芦）、升麻、柴胡、橘皮、当归身（酒洗）、白术各6g。水三盏，煎至一盏，去渣，早饭后温服。方中升麻轻清升散，为佐使药。
